MAHENGE SPINELS

Mahenge spinels burst onto the scene in 2007 when a pocket of extraordinary "hot pink" stones was discovered in Tanzania. These electric pink gems caused a sensation and remain among the most sought-after colored stones today.

THE MAHENGE PHENOMENON

The 2007 Discovery: When the first Mahenge spinels hit the market, dealers couldn't believe the color. An intense, almost neon pink with a subtle orange glow — unlike anything seen before. Prices skyrocketed overnight, and the "Mahenge" name became synonymous with premium pink spinel.

The Hot Pink Effect: What makes Mahenge spinels special is their fluorescence. High chromium content causes them to glow under daylight, creating an electric, almost "glowing from within" appearance. This effect is strongest in the finest specimens.

Naturally Perfect: Like all spinels, Mahenge stones are never heat-treated. What you see is what nature created — no enhancement, no compromise. This makes them particularly appealing to collectors who value natural beauty.

Increasing Rarity: The original Mahenge deposit that produced the finest stones is largely exhausted. While new pockets are occasionally found, the legendary "hot pink" material from 2007-2010 is essentially gone. Prices for top specimens continue to rise.
