ABOUT THE SAPPHIRE BANK
We buy gemstones because we love them. Sapphires especially. The depth of a Kashmir blue, the fire of a Burmese ruby, the rare glow of a Mahenge spinel—these stones captivate us. They're beautiful, they're rare, and honestly, they're fun.
THE INVESTMENT ANGLE
But there's another side to it. Gemstones—particularly untreated, origin-certified stones from depleting mines—have shown consistent appreciation over decades. We noticed this. We started buying stones not just because they were beautiful, but because they were rare and getting rarer.
That's why we built the Archive. We purchase exceptional stones, hold them, and list them here. If someone wants to acquire one, great—we take a markup and use that to buy more stones. If nobody buys, that's fine too. The stones sit in our vault, appreciating. We're transparent about this: it's a strategy, and we're honest about it.
SOLVING THE LIQUIDITY PROBLEM
The biggest problem in this industry? Illiquidity. You can buy a beautiful stone, but when you want to sell it, where do you go? Auction houses take months and massive commissions. Dealers lowball you. There's no market maker, no exit strategy.
We see people who are curious about gemstone investment but afraid to commit because they don't know how to get out. That fear is valid. So we decided to do something about it.
THE 12-MONTH GUARANTEE
Every stone we sell comes with a 12-month buyback guarantee. You can return it for 80% cash or 100% credit toward another piece in the Archive.
Is it optimal? No. We can't offer 100% cash back—there are market fluctuations, authentication costs, and we need to stay solvent. But 80% is secure. We're confident in that number for at least 12 months. It's not perfect liquidity, but it's a failsafe. A floor. Something this industry has never really had.
WORLDWIDE SHIPPING
Every stone is shipped via FedEx Insured Shipping. We handle customs, documentation, and tracking. Your stone arrives within 2-3 business days, anywhere in the world.
For buyback, simply ship the stone back to us. We'll verify it's the same stone, unaltered and undamaged, then process your return. The 80% guarantee stands for 12 months from purchase.
FOR JEWELERS
We work with jewelers too. They buy stones from us, set them in pieces, try to sell the jewelry. If it doesn't work out—the client changes their mind, the design doesn't sell—they have a fallback. They can melt the gold, return the stone. No problem at all.
It's a safety net that lets them take creative risks without betting the business on every piece.
MINE TO MARKET
We source directly. Sometimes we're at the mines in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, or Tanzania, buying rough before it's even cut. Sometimes we're at gem markets in Bangkok or Colombo, negotiating with cutters and dealers who've known us for years.
Every stone goes through local certification and our own lab assessment before entering the Archive. We know what we're buying—origin, treatment, quality. We've been doing this long enough.
Full certification from labs like GIA or GRS is available upon purchase, but we keep it optional. Why? Because it takes months, it's expensive, and if you want to see the stone first, we'd have to unseal it anyway. So we offer it when you're ready to commit, not before.
This isn't a side business for us. It's what we do.
THE BOTTOM LINE
We're investors who happen to sell. Not sellers pretending to be experts. We buy stones we'd be happy to keep forever. We list them because maybe someone else will love them as much as we do. And we offer buyback because we believe this market deserves better than what it has.
That's The Sapphire Bank.
