THE MOGOK LEGEND
Pigeon Blood: The term "pigeon blood" originated in Burma to describe the ideal ruby color — a pure, vivid red with a hint of blue, resembling the first drop of blood from a freshly killed pigeon. This color occurs due to the unique combination of chromium content and trace elements found only in Mogok marble deposits.
Natural Fluorescence: Burmese rubies contain high chromium levels that cause strong red fluorescence in daylight. This makes the stones appear to "glow" from within — a characteristic that cannot be replicated by rubies from other origins.
800 Years of History: Mogok has been producing rubies since at least the 15th century. The region's rubies have adorned royal crowns across Europe and Asia. Today, fine Mogok rubies are found primarily in museums and private collections.
Extreme Rarity: Gem-quality unheated Burmese rubies over 2 carats are extraordinarily rare. Most fine specimens are under 1 carat. A 5+ carat unheated pigeon blood Mogok ruby is a museum-quality treasure. Compare with Mozambique rubies for a more accessible alternative.
